This unique office space stands out as an e-commerce hub, named after the horse Rurutiki. The design theme aims to evoke the image of Rurutiki, a beautiful horse running on white earth, experiencing various breathtaking sceneries such as jungles, oases, and oceans. To achieve this, the designer incorporated earth tone colors, including elements of plants, wood, stone, oasis, ocean, and coral, creating a soothing and productive work environment.
The realization of this design involved the use of the horseshoe's arc concept in the overall interior shape. The main plate was molded and plastered with white cement to achieve a seamless finish. The incorporation of plant decorations involved a combination of real and artificial plants, adding a touch of greenery to the space.
The Rurutiki office spans an area of 1105 square meters, providing ample space for employees to work and collaborate. The design team, led by Creative Director Summer Chang Hin Cheong and Assistant Designer Jay Ng Kian Cong, paid great attention to the 6211 design rule. This rule emphasizes the use of space and visual space (6%), space planning (60%), visual color planning (20%), lighting design (10%), and the design theme and story (10%).
The project, located in Puncak Alam, Malaysia, commenced in November 2020 and is set to be completed by November 2021. The design was driven by the need to combine current design trends with natural elements, highlighting the importance of the relationship between health and nature. Additionally, the design incorporates a touching story, adding vitality to the overall concept.
The Rurutiki office space faced several challenges during its development. Fire protection laws limited the amount of natural light that could be brought indoors, requiring creative solutions to enhance the lighting. Furthermore, the calculation of arcs for walls and ceilings posed technical challenges during the construction process.
The Rurutiki office space has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skill, and contribute to quality of life improvements.
